Embrace the Fire (Through Hell and Back, #3)Embrace the Fire by Felice Stevens
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This third book in the Through Hell and Back series completes the circle perfectly and makes it strong through the relationships within it.

Brandon is impossible not to love – and old and battered soul in a young mans body. Like his brothers he survived hell at the hands of their adoptive father and he’s come through it with both visible and invisible scars. In some ways it’s made him stronger but the trauma of it all lies close beneath the surface.

Tash has his own demons that he’s fighting with and even though they might be why he want to help Brandon in the first place it all quickly changes to attraction, lust and love.

I love Felice Stevens books. Her writing is solid and she delivers enjoyable books without fail.

Having it all is a fantasy, right?
Carrie Shelton thought her boyfriend was too good to be true. Her best friend’s brother? A guy who loved antiquing? Who cuddled on the couch while watching foodie YouTube clips and talking about artisanal spices? Who helped her accessorize her outfits?
Right.
Fantasy.
So when he ran off with Kevin, the owner of an antique shop, right before his sister’s wedding, Carrie’s life went from fantasy to nightmare.
As maid of honor, she can’t back out of the wedding. And her ex is the best man – but now he has his own best man.
She needs a date. Stat.
Enter Ryan. Sure, he’s a hot male stripper at the O Spa where she works as junior designer, but he’s a few years younger and just, you know — a friend.
Perfect. She needs a friend more than she needs a boyfriend.
A weekend of playing her boyfriend so she can save face is a lot to ask, but for some reason Carrie doesn’t understand, Ryan’s all in. Enthusiastic, even.
Especially when it comes to physical displays of affection.
Public kisses turn to private confessions, and pretty soon, Carrie can’t tell the difference between fantasy and reality.
Because if Ryan’s just pretending he’s in love with her, then why does the chemistry between them — and between the sheets — feel so real?
Carrie can’t settle for almost, though. She’s already done that. She’s not putting her life on hold anymore.
Turns out Ryan won’t, either.
He’s holding out for more.Thank You For Holding is a STANDALONE in the On Hold series. You do not need to have read book 1 in the series, but after reading about Carrie and Ryan’s friends-to-lovers adventure, you’ll want to. 😉

Ryan had me falling in love with him even if he made me want to kick his behind a time or two. But I can easily forgive him for that.

Carrie has not exactly been lucky in love but I couldn’t help but cheer for the two of them as she slowly realizes that there are hidden depths of feelings below the surface.

This is a feel-good book perfect for a light read when you’re looking for a HEA on rainy night.

RYAN
“How’s Jamey doing?” I ask. I don’t give a rat’s ass about him. Talking about anything that will deflate my ever-growing boner is my goal. Think about Donald Trump. Hillary Clinton. Ken Bone. Betty White.
Perfect. Deflation sequence activated.
“Jamey is so sweet!” Carrie gets that weird look again. Her eyes fill with a mild form of panic, which fades quickly, leaving her chewing on a pen cap. “He got us tickets for a holiday concert and just stopped by with my favorite coffee.”
“Nice. But every guy should do that for the person they’re dating.”
“Really?” She looks so surprised. I hate that she looks so surprised.
“It’s pretty basic Dating 101 stuff, Carrie.”
“Like you know anything about dating,” she lobs back at me. “You haven’t had a girlfriend since I met you.” She walks into her cubicle and nods for me to follow.
My heart just got decimated by a SCUD missile. I can’t look at her. I follow, then pick up one of the metal balls on her Newton’s Cradle and let it clack against the others. The force shoves the ball on the other end to strike out in an arc.
“Well, you know…”
She snorts. “Yeah, I know. Why settle for one woman when you can have a taste of so many?”
I’m not sure when she got the idea that I’m some kind of playboy Casanova manwhore. That’s Zeke. But no matter what I tell her, she doesn’t believe me.
“Right.” Our eyes meet and I can’t breathe. You spend years pretending and hiding your feelings and when those little slivers, fractions of time that don’t show up on a clock, protrude through your facade, you take them as they are.
Real, raw, and so hard.

EXCERPT:

When I finally plucked up a bit of courage, I peeped out of the curtains to see Kieran throwing stones at the window.

“Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair,” he mock shouted, when he caught my eye. I opened the window to whisper loudly back at him.

“Are you high?” I asked. “Why didn’t you just ring the doorbell or call me?”

“I thought this would be more romantic,” he said.

“If I ignore the fact that my nipples probably have frostbite, I am feeling romanced,” I replied. He looked pained. “What’s wrong?” I asked.

“You said ‘nipples’ and now I can’t think of anything else,” he replied, making me smile.

“Now I’m down here, what’s the chances of seeing an accidental nip slip?” he asked.

“Depends,” I replied.

“On what?” he asked.

“What’s in the bag?” I said.

“Hot chocolate and warm doughnuts,” he said, holding up the bag as if to barter.

“Well, I would have said slim to none, but fresh doughnuts might have just tipped the odds in your favour,” I replied.

“Yesss!” he said, fist bumping the air in victory.

I closed the window and ran to buzz him in. He bounded up the stairwell, his heavy footsteps echoing loudly in the hallway. When he got to my door, he looked me up and down, taking in my short royal blue, silk pyjamas. Dropping the sack, he speared his hands into my hair and pulled me into a kiss that had me melting. Kier didn’t kiss with just his lips; he did it with his whole body. Without shoes on, I was tiny in comparison, but inside of the cage of his huge arms, I felt protected and safe. Despite his size, his lips were so gentle. He didn’t treat me like I was fragile, but like I was precious, as though every touch was one that he was experiencing for the first time and memorizing for later.

Feeling bold, I traced the seam of his mouth with my tongue, and when he parted his lips and touched his tongue against mine, I groaned. Every sensation was too much, and not enough. Breathless, he pulled away from me to nuzzle his face in the crook of my neck. I reached up and gently stroked the short hair at the back of his neck, making him sigh.

I have waited for this book for what seems like forever. But honestly, I would have waited a lot longer (shh, don’t tell the author). It had big shoes to fill after The Hurricane and The Aftermath. And let me tell you straight away, that it delivers big time.

Kieran might be softer around the edges than his best friend O’Connell…but make no mistakes; He is a fighter through an through and God help the person who gets between him and someone he cares about…and it doesn’t matter if it’s the love of his life or a friend. He is there for them and like The Storm he’ll remove any obstacle that’s in his way.

Marie is no stranger to fighting herself. She might not fight her battles in a boxing ring, but she just might be the strongest of them all. She’ll give up everything herself if it means protecting the people she loves…including Kieran.

These two made me cry ugly tears. I hurt with them during their journey and I celebrated with them. I wanted to kick some behinds with them. I cheered for them and I prayed for them.

With The Storm R.J. Prescott brings us her third book and it’s solid work. The story line flows beautifully and she invites you into the world of Driscoll’s Gym in a way that makes you feel like you belong there.

The Storm gets 5***** stars from me <3

‘We love Aussies,’ they said, ‘the readers will eat you up’.

Those seven little words got me on a plane to the USA for the ‘Raunchy with a touch of sexiness – Valentine’s Day Author Event’ in Miami.

I’m a romance author. A girl with a vivid imagination, and an overactive sex drive.

Oh, and yes I’m Australian

When I agreed the so-called love of my life had just walked out on me, leaving me with two little girls. All I wanted was a little fun and some no strings attached fun while I was there.

It would be my very own ‘what happens in Miami, stays in Miami’.

Unless I fall in love with an American….

There’s no such thing as a happily ever after in real life.
